How to Get a State Job

Applying for a state job is different than the private sector. All state of California jobs, and application guides, are on CalCareers.

Why Join SNC?

Since its inception in 2004, the SNC has worked to improve the environmental, economic, and social well-being of California’s Sierra-Cascade. This includes helping make communities safer from wildfires, creating new opportunities to enjoy public lands, and protecting the region’s rich biodiversity and natural resources.

The SNC values diversity and is committed to creating a welcoming environment for employees from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and personal experiences. A diverse staff helps SNC to understand and respond to the many needs of its large and varied service area.

State employment also offers many great benefits, like health care, a pension, student loan forgiveness, hybrid telework, and alternative work schedules.

At the SNC, we not only do meaningful work to help protect and restore health and resilience across the Sierra-Cascade, but we do so in a thriving and open environment that values collaboration, diversity, and a healthy work-life balance. The hard work and dedication of our team are a shining light for me. The people here are truly inspirational and make the SNC such a special place to work.

Angela Avery
Executive Officer

I really enjoy collaborating with local organizations and coming up with creative solutions to get their projects off the ground. It’s incredibly satisfying to see the impact our work has on the landscape while driving throughout the Sierra-Cascade or hiking with my kids on a trail that was restored with the Sierra Nevada Conservancy’s support.

Michael Pickard
Area Representative

My favorite thing about working for SNC is building relationships with coworkers across the agency. Because we are small, we often collaborate with staff in other divisions and learn from each other.

Julia Hart
Business Services Analyst

My favorite part of working for the SNC is connecting with our grantees in the field during project site visits, collaborative meetings, and other trips to the field. The SNC funds a lot of different projects and organizations, which keeps my work really interesting and fulfilling.

Trinity Stirling

I love visiting areas where SNC has funded work and seeing firsthand the positive impact we’re making in our little corner of the world. Every day I get to work and collaborate with an amazing and diverse group of people, all deeply committed to making the Sierra-Cascade region more resilient.

Zephyr Neumann

I love working at SNC because it combines many things I’m passionate about: protecting the Sierra-Cascade, helping Californians, and technical administrative work. Plus, I get to work with a supportive and engaged group of people who care about what we’re doing.
