2011 Great Sierra River Cleanup Results

September 17, 2011 – Thousands of Volunteers Pitch in for the 3rd Annual Great Sierra River Cleanup

Final results are in! On September 17, 2011 more than 3,600 volunteers joined together to remove over 251 tons of trash and recyclables from rivers throughout the Sierra Nevada as part of the Third Annual Great Sierra River Cleanup. The Sierra Nevada Conservancy would like to thank all of the volunteers and partners that made this year’s Great Sierra River Cleanup such a huge success! Here are the final results:

RiverTree Volunteers pull tires from the San Joaquin River as part of the 2011 Great Sierra River Cleanup. To date RiverTree Volunteers has removed more than 6,000 tires from the San Joaquin River.

3,644 volunteers
64,780 pounds of trash removed
438,642 pounds of recyclables removed
287 River miles cleaned
