Michael grew up in the Sierra Foothills and fell in love with the mountains at a young age. Michael spent much of his childhood hiking in and around Yosemite National Park, fishing in the Eastern Sierra streams, and mountain biking throughout the Region.
When entering college, he decided to major in fields that would allow him to live and work in the mountains. Michael holds a BS Degree in Forestry with an emphasis on Forest Hydrology from Humboldt State University, and a Master of Science Degree in Environmental Systems with an emphasis on Mountain and Snow Hydrology from the University of California, Merced.
Michael has worked as a hydrologist for the US Forest Service and the Sierra Nevada Research Institute at UC Merced on a multitude of different forest and meadow restoration projects. He has a diverse skillset that spans forest health and management, environmental monitoring, sensor installation, GIS and mapping, and data analysis.
Michael is using his skillset to help people in the Southern Sierra get their forest and watershed improvement projects up and running. Michael assists people with grant acquisition and project planning and is excited to see different groups and agencies working collaboratively to create healthy, safe, and flourishing mountain communities.
In his time away from work, Michael enjoys spending time with his family, hiking and camping in the mountains, and playing his violin.
